The National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL)


NCPUL is an independent body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD), Department of Higher Education, and Government of India. The Sole purpose of this department is to promote, develop and propagate Urdu language; Council started its function in Delhi on April 1, 1996. In its power as the National Nodal Agency for the encouragement of the Urdu language NCPUL is the principal coordinating and monitoring authority for endorsement of Urdu language and Urdu education.

The main objectives for which the Council has been established are:  
·         To endorse, expand and promulgate Urdu language.

·          To take steps for making accessible in Urdu language the knowledge of scientific and technological development as well as knowledge of ideas evolved in the up to date context.

·          To give an opinion to the Government of India on matters associated with Urdu language and having comportment on education as may be referred to it.

·         To embark on other projects for the endorsement of Urdu language as may be believed fit by the Council.
Shri Kapil Sibal is the chairman of National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language. Shri Chanderbhan Khayal is the Vice-Chairman, NCPUL. Dr.  M. Hamidullah Bhat is the Director.

  1. Assalam va laikum sahab... A nice and wonderful council is there but to the bad luck of urdu world... No one knows about it... I request the authorities to give wide publicity... So that Urdu world may know and benefitted... Regardz
